State Senate Approves Senator Pavley’s Blight Prevention Bill

The California State Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 1472, authored by Senator Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) this morning.  SB 1472 is a bill that will provide local governments additional tools to fight blight caused by foreclosed properties primarily owned by banks and financial institutions.

Senator Pavley said, “Bank and financial institution's foreclosed homes can create a nuisance for neighboring residents. Properties not being cared for lowers the value of surrounding homes, and abandoned properties attract gangs, drug users, and squatters.

State Senate passes bill to protect music community from piracy

The State Senate passed Senate Bill 1479 this morning on a unanimous, bi-partisan vote. SB 1479, authored by Senator Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills), will provide a clear standard for restitution in cases involving pirated music and movies. 

Senator Pavley said, “California is facing a serious problem with the crime of music and movie piracy.  Street vendors and retail locations sell fraudulent recordings openly throughout the state. They are frequently supplied by large scale underground manufacturing and distribution operations.

Senator Pavley’s Bill to Increase Convictions for Sex Crimes Against Minors Approved Unanimously in Senate Committee

State Senator Fran Pavley’s (D-Agoura Hills) Senate Bill 1091, a bill to help increase convictions of perpetrators against children and other vulnerable victims by helping them testify without fear, was approved this morning by the Senate Public Safety Committee on a unanimous, bipartisan vote.

SB 1091, sponsored by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, will provide trial assistance for victims of child pornography, pimping, pandering and for sex trafficking.

Brownfield Properties Redevelopment Bill Approved by Senate Committee

April 16, 2012

A proposal authored by Senator Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) to help local government cleanup and sell brownfield development sites was approved by the Senate Environmental Quality Committee this afternoon.

Due to the elimination of redevelopment agencies (RDAs), local government must dispose of properties owned by those former agencies.

Senate Votes Unanimously to Pass “End the R-Word” Bill

The State Senate unanimously passed Senator Fran Pavley’s (D-Agoura Hills) Senate Bill 1381, the “End the R-Word” bill on a bipartisan vote this morning.  Senator Pavley said, “I appreciate the support of all my colleagues in the State Senate this morning and their acknowledgement that the term “mentally retarded” is offensive and outdated.”

Senator Pavley’s Fracking Disclosure Bill Advances

A bill providing advance notice of drilling and hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) operations of any well to the nearby property owners and occupants passed its first committee hearing today.

Bill pressing pension plans to prioritize infrastructure investments in California advances on a unanimous, bipartisan vote

Senate Bill 955, a bill allowing public pension funds to prioritize investments in California infrastructure projects over out-of-state projects, passed on a unanimous, bipartisan vote in the Senate’s Public Employment and Retirement Committee today.

Sacramento, CA – The Senate Health Committee passed Senator Fran Pavley’s Senate Bill 1381, the “End the R-Word” bill this afternoon on a unanimous, bipartisan vote. The non-fiscal bill now goes directly to the full Senate for consideration.

SB 1381 was introduced by Senator Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) to provide an important terminology change for the disabled community throughout California.
